Breathing and Meditation Software App - Lotus Pond The Lotus Pond garden, orderly yet free-flowing, promotes a sense of calm and tranquility. Relax under a cherry blossom tree as a large lotus flower, floating over the water ahead, animates in response to a soothing "whooshing" sound – gently guiding the breath as it expands (inhale) and contracts (exhale). |
General
The Lotus Pond Virtual Reality Application:
Users interact with the water by throwing a stone into the pond and watching the pond ripple. As the experience intensifies, a light shines on a closed lotus in the center of the pond. The lotus slowly opens, as the water ripples. Then the light gently pulsates on the opening flower to guide user breathing. Breathing Guide A pulsating light and rippling water along with a breath-like whooshing sound, imitating an inhale/exhale pattern, subtly guides the users’ breathing. With the opening of the lotus flower, the sound imitates a longer deeper breath. While there are many forms of mindfulness, focus on the breath is a common practice that is easily taught and suitable for beginners. Long-term practice is known to provide clinical relief; significant effects can be measured even after a single session. Calming Experience Breathing practices or methods that slow breathe rate are effective interventions for reducing stress and anxiety, which can be measured by a number physiological measures. Heart rate variability (HRV), for example, is a complex measure related to autonomic function; increases in HRV are associated with improved health and reduced stress response. Breathing rates of 4 to 6 breaths per minute are associated with improved HRV. Breathing practices are a powerful way to induce a calm state and promote stress-reducing physiological responses. The reduction in breathe rate should be gradual as trying to force a slow breathe rate too quickly can lead to distress.
